Light touch, big flavors
Pros: Wine list, great service, great food
Cons: can be too dark, can be too noisy
Like moths to a flame, those who love exquisite food return time and again to Chef Michael White’s Fiamma, where a light touch puts big flavors on the plate. The appetizers are excellent – try any scallop or octopus dish offered. Seasonal changes keep things interesting. The special entrees or pastas are usually the best to order, especially in the autumn. They will not disappoint. But save room for dessert – Chef Elizabeth Katz will have a sublime creation designed just for you, or at least that is how you feel when it arrives at the table. The wine list is daunting, but Daniele Sbordi and his intimate knowledge of all things Italian can help. (Take the glass elevator down to the wine cellar and peep in at this array of wines from the best vintners in Italy.) If you are not in the mood for wine, try a designer cocktail from the deft hand of Eben Klem. Great place for a double date or to meet the potentials in-laws. The dining room can be a little too dark and noisy for a romantic date. Great power lunch spot if you have to make that deal.
