Very Authentic Home-Style Korean Food
Pros: authentic, people watching, fun crowd,
Cons:
Forget the dumbed-down American version of Korean home cooking and step into a place that caters to those who miss Mom's oxtail soup! Good food, good service, great price.
Open 24 hours, this place has great kimchee whenever you want it. The dining room gets packed late night, when the young and shiny Korean crowd stops in after clubbing, or perhaps before. A popular speciality is sulong-tang (ox-tail soup to which you add your own salt and scallions). Also a standard favorite is bean-dae-duk (Korean pancake made with ground beans) . There are other traditional dishes - try the soon dae (Korean sausage). For dessert go next door to the cafe and have green tea cheesecake.
There are some hand-carved, low traditional table - don't sit there if you have stinky feet - shoes come off. The ambience is home-style and Asian chic at the same time, so it is fun to see everyone dressed in the latest fashion and sitting on traditional pillows.
Also, if you have never had Korean food before, it is a good idea to go with a guide who can help divine what you might like. Some specialities, like "cow-knee" are not for the faint of heart.
