World renowned kora player Toumani Diabate comes to New York City’s Skirball Center on Sunday November 2nd. He mixes native music from Mali with flamenco and other influences to create a blend that is easily accessible and inviting. Coming from a family in which his father recorded the first album using the kora, this should be a wonderful night of music on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. For someone who's a musician and grew up with the music of Frank Zappa, it’s a real treat to see Frank’s son Dweezil carrying on the legacy. Dweezil brings his Zappa plays Zappa band to the Blender Theater for a three night run during Halloween week. Though the night of the 31st is sold out, tickets are still available for the other two nights. Dweezil has put so much of his own energy into rehearsing and crafting a band that you might actually close your eyes and think that Frank is on stage himself with George Duke and Napoleon Murphy Brock. More information for the shows can be found at www.blendertheater.com.

Tribute bands are very common these days, with original members from bands such as the Doors and the Who performing without some of the members that made them household names. Jimi Hendrix has been gone for almost forty years, but his original band mates drummer Mitch Mitchell and bassist Billy Cox have put together a stellar line-up to pay homage to the late guitarist. Along with guitarists Buddy Guy, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and Eric Johnson, the group stops at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan on Tuesday October 21st. You can purchase tickets right here on our website.
