Guitarist Bill Frisell and tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano begin a two week engagement at the Village Vanguard this week. Performing alongside legendary drummer Paul Motian, these shows will satisfy your jazz cravings and maybe make you dance as well. For anyone not familiar with the work of Bill Frisell, he has combined bluegrass, jazz, rock, and fusion into one of the most original guitar tones in recent memory. Similarly, Lovano emerged in the 1980s and 1990s with such an original sound that music schools across the country started pumping out little Lovano carbon copies. Rounding out this stellar lineup is Armenian-bred Paul Motian who is best known for his playing with the late great pianist Bill Evans. Sets start at 9:00 and 11:00 p.m. For further information on these artists and the shows, check out www.villagevanguard.com.
