Wetlands, Wetbacks and the W

Bush, Bush, Bush. Wonderous buffoon, or harbinger of the authoritarian state to come?

First, his Supreme court reeks of men hell-bent to remove as much power from the people and from their duly elected officials as possible, first by chipping away at the whole concept of civil rights, then by subordinating those rights to business interests in the name of imminent domain, and further by reducing avenues for redress of grievences. Like Basques stripped of treaty rights because they have no official flag, American citizens are being stripped of their basic rights because they have no dedicated lobbyists.

The Supreme court no longer doles out justice or clarification of the Constitution; the Bush court now deals out one continuous end-run around due-process. But that does not seem to matter because AMericans seem to be more fascinated by Britney Spears' red-neckin' ways than by what the an authoritarian future might mean for them.

Then there is the conundrum of the Wetback. Some of you readers have sent messages asking my opinion about the frontier wars. How ironic that only now, when Bush needs his party to pass his beloved guest-worker legislation, is the DHS stepping up raids and threatening to penalize business. Where was Bush after the failed Vidalia onion raids, or the failed Nebraska meatpacking raids, or the failed Maryland restaurant raids? Wal-Mart had the deep pockets to pay the fines, but what about small business operators?

Please people, take notes: When a State enters into an age of intolerance, the People who are "foreign", have bad reputations, or who attempt to collude to disobey intolerant laws, will suffer the disasterous consequences. Such a collision (intolerance and fear of the Other) always leads to certain disaster. History is filled with these stories. Please, lets not add to that list.

Bush Makes Imperial Visit to Baghdad, Declares Comittment to Occupation

Our beloved President made an Imperial visit to Baghdad, like so many glorious Emperors before him. The only things missing was triumphant entry into the city, and a Monumental Arch and commemorative tower. Due to time and terror constraints, he arrived under the cover of darkness and was then quickly whisked away in his private plane full of propaganda staff.

He stood before his Iraqi subjects and made them aware that he expects great things from them, and that he will be there for them until they no longer need him to be.

Ah! Spoken like an Emperor – so Paternal and democratic at the same time! One thinks of other such mighty warrior-leaders: the Emperor Nero, Constantine the 6th, Juana the Mad, and so on.

Since Bush has been salivating for dictatorship since he was governor of Texas, he got his first taste of what it is like to dominate a demoralized population. He looks so happy today, after visiting his subjects in their devastated homeland. How awesome the feeling to stand before a people with a history as long as civilization, knowing that you had the power to utterly destroy them forever. Ah, the sweet pleasure of absolute power.

Chertoff supports further curtailment of Civil Liberties in order to protect citizens

Ah, that Michael Chertoff, so unpleasing to view, so anti-civil rights to behold. Yes, he is opening that big scary door that leads straight to the gates of hellish fascism.

Wake up! It’s not a nightmare! It’s your own reality!

Eavesdropping on private citizens, without warrants and with no oversight whatsoever, is just another step towards creating that Fascist Valhalla, where the happy citizens love their glorious leader and hate anyone who questions his gloriosity. Sounds like North Korea to me!

Here is the future as defined by Chertoff – and of course Cheney, without whom none of the current horrifying events would be possible:

1. All citizens must pass a “good citizen background check” in order to vote.
2. All citizen correspondence will be monitored for quality control – in this case “quality” meaning the quality of dedication to the Leader.
3. All citizens will be required to watch a minimum of 3 hours of commercial television each day, and to spend at least 10% of their total gross income on the junk-food products advertised during those three hours.
4. If you are not a citizen, whatever happens to you is your own damn fault. You simply don't count.
5. All citizens must wear a radio-tracking device, the data from which can be supplied to the NSA and any private individual with the cash to pay for it.
6. All poor citizens are subject to periodic humiliation, just to remind them that they are morally, as well as financially, bankrupt.
7. All poor male citizens are required to serve as cannon fodder in wars waged by His Gloriosity (The Leader), who needs victories to add to his collection of Public Honors. One can never have too many Triumphal Monuments.
8. All poor female citizens must produce male citizens for the cannon fodder.
9. All citizens are required to work and to enjoy it immensely.
10. All citizens must pledge allegiance to Disney, McDonald’s, Coca Cola, Haliburton and the descendents of Dick “I am the real King” Cheney.

And that is you future, unless you decide to change it!
