Not since the time of Julius Caesar (the real one has any nation attempted to effect Imperial Democracy. Caesar did so by marching his army, fresh from expansionist campaigns across Europe, on Rome and effectively dismantling the Roman Senate. His successor, Augustus Caesar, continued the tradition of rule by one man, and he did so by creating a state cult to the Emperor. Why did he do this? Was it purely for his own gloriosity? No. It was a necessary step in the creation of an Imperial Democracy. Rome simply could not have attempted to build nor hoped to administered such far-flung provinces as Spain, Britain, Asia Minor and Judea without a centralized, cultural ideology. Thus, not only did the Roman Republic become an Imperial Democracy, it also became a theocracy. Worship of the Emperor was mandatory.
No one is saying that George W. Bush is attempting to sanctify himself. But he has taken us all thousands of steps closer to Imperial Democracy than any of us a generation ago could have believed possible. We always thought that the system of checks and balances written into the Constitution would protect us from such a thing. Surely the Founders had no such thing on their minds, for they created a model based on the Roman Republic, not the Roman Empire, modified to reflect the lessons learned not only by the rise of Imperial Rome, but also its later incarnations in Europe and the Near East. Yet Bush, even more than Nixon before him, has declared himself exempt not only from almost every law, but also from any scrutiny that he feels he cannot control. The Dubai Ports deal is okay with him because Dubai is his friend and no one in Dubai would ever harm his person. Thus, he sees this control of our ports as not an issue, and certainly not a security issue.
No one is saying that George W. Bush doesn’t care about the security of the country. On the contrary, he is 100% hawkish and bellicose. By declaring war on an abstract idea (terrorism), which, like the abyss from which it comes, has no beginning and no end, he has in effect plunged the nation into a continual state of war. He created the Department of Homeland Security just to make sure that Citizens were on board. DHS is not about the Outside World; it’s not about strategies or understanding the geopolitical climate. It is about keeping citizens under control and making sure that they don’t cause unrest. It is about spying and about cutting away at civil liberties in the name of National Security. Augustus did this too. He had his detractors killed in various and gruesome ways.
No one is saying that George W. Bush kills his political opponents, at least not in the literal sense. But he does spend a great deal more time, money and energy on discrediting his detractors and calling them names than he does on solving serious domestic problems, like the deficit, healthcare and the 8 million Americans currently in jail. Nevertheless, Augustus would have approved of much of what Bush has done, except for the invasion of Iraq. Augustus would have sent an enemy in first destabilize the region, and then sent in his legions. He also would have mercilessly executed some of the population, just to make it clear who held the reigns of power.
No one is saying that George W. Bush aspires to Imperial Power. He believes wholeheartedly in Democracy, except when that democracy doesn’t do what he wants, or has an agenda at odds with his own. He is not the first American president to behave in this way. Social Democracies around the world have been destabilized into theocratic civil wars. Iran-Contra was the end product of a long period of destabilizing two very different governments. So, in this sense, George W. Bush is following precedent. However, one has to wonder if he really has the cojones to smash Palestine because after their recent elections. Only time will tell. Cheney probably has a solution for that problem.
No one is saying that George W. Bush doesn’t have his own brain, but it seems pretty clears at this juncture that his will to power rides a series of what appear to contradictory ideas. First, he believes in national security but is willing to hand over port security to suspect foreign governments. Second, his goal is to spread democracy around the world, except in Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and certain parts of central and south America. Third, he says he believes in free and open debate, but all attendees at this so-called Town Hall meetings are screened and must pass the Bush litmus test before being allowed within 200 yards of his Bushness.
Do the Math. Bush is to Spreading Democracy as Caesar was to Spreading Democracy.

When wondering about the future course of this country, Americans need to think – not about what happening next week or next month or even in the next election. They just need to think. They need to stop watching Fox News and MSNBC and they to think for themselves. They need to stop handing their brains over to those screaming idiots on the 24 hour news (v. spew) channels.
In Social Studies, as the teaching of US History and Government in the Public Schools used to be called, there were some key components of indoctrination. They are as follows:
1. The American Revolution of 1776 was a noble war that ended the system of Monarchy in the Colonies (Canada was never mentioned) and allowed Americans to tax themselves for the administration of their own land and needs.
2. The Bill of Rights is the cornerstone of a free society.
3. The US Constitution was designed to prevent any one branch of government from dominating the other two.
4. The separation of Church and State in guaranteed by the Constitution.
5. Freedom of Speech is guaranteed by the Constitution.
6. Freedom from illegal search and seizure and from being forced to house soldiers, are guaranteed by the Constitution.
7. The President does not have absolute authority; he is not a King. The purpose of the revolution was to throw off the yoke of tyranny – tyranny is autocratic rule.
8. The Congress makes the laws.
9. The Supreme Court hears cases and tests laws in the face of the Constitution.
10. The United States represents the best known and most reliable democratic model ever seen on the Earth. The US is the standard bearer of Freedom worldwide.
The Realpolitik of today in the face of the neo-cons and PNAC (Policy for a New American Century) flies in the face all the things taught to young American minds. Here is the current interpretation of these essentialities of the Social Studies once learned:
/>1. The American Revolution of 1776 was a noble war, and now Americans are taxed in order to administer other nations to fight battles for other nations.
2. The Bill of Rights is the cornerstone of a free society, until it interferes with the neo-con and PNAC conception of the US as “world-hegemon”.
3. The US Constitution does provide for a balance of powers, except in the case of a global war, which is the infinite plan laid out by Wolfowitz on behalf of neo-cons and PNAC; in this case, the gravity of fighting a never-ending war requires suspension of the separation of powers.
4. The separation of church and state remains in effect; business and non-profits however can operate as mini-theocracies, and since they are charged with providing social welfare, they can and do use theocratic principles to determine the distribution of aid.
5. Freedom of Speech is still in force, but retaliation for “troublesome” speech in unregulated; PNAC routinely eviscerates opposing voices, or “disappears” them, as in the case of Colin Powell.
6. Freedom from illegal search and seizures is no longer in effect. All personal information is for sale to anyone and can be used for any and numerous forms of retaliation. PNAC consistently leaks information, as in the case of Valerie Pflame, not only to counter media spin but also to personally destroy others in ad hominem attacks.
7. The President does not have absolute power, except in the theatre of war, which is now everywhere and forever.
8. The Legislature no longer represents the People, but is an arm of various Lobbies, most of which are funded by private business and religious organizations supported by PNAC.
9. The Supreme Court is no longer a separate branch of government but is in fact an arm of the Executive and is used against the Legislature in order to curb laws that might attempt to restrict the Executive.
10. The United States no longer represents Freedom or a Free Society around the world. It represents global hegemony.
Americans need to THINK about the words that fall from the lips of Bush, Rice, Gonazalez, and yes that fat bag of flatulence Dick Cheney.
PNAC, as any research into publications such as the Weekly Standard, has a single goal, which is to secure the position of the US as the single “global-hegemon”. This should not be interpreted as a sports metaphor for “We’re Number one!” It should be interpreted as an attempt to effect exactly the kind of political stranglehold against which American colonists fought in 1776. The current direction in which the US Ship of State is sailing is headed to a New World Order where democracy is a sham and primary resources are in the hands of a few. The elixir of complacency brought on by supersaturation of goods, services, information and technology has drugged us all into thinking that the invasion of Iraq was a necessary step in the protection of our Values. What are we saying?
PS: The Weekly Standard and other so-called "new organs" got their start-up money from Rupert Murdoch (owner of Fox and therefore over 50% of news organs in the US), who is a close ally of PNAC and AEI and other neo-con groups that seeks a secure American role as "Global-hegemon".

Our illustrious Vice President, Dick Cheney, has once again proven what an inept leader he truly is, mistaking his poor human companion for pint-sized avian prey. Yes, this is the perfect metaphor for his Iraq War – he can’t use the equipment properly, can’t find the right target, and will take it out anyone who gets in the way. The quail was the only winner in this buffoon-inspired accident.
Cheney’s roll down Blunder Boulevard continues while we ask ourselves “for how long”. It is unimaginable to most reasonable people that he is where he is and that he has dragged us along with him into one of the darkest chapters of American History (unless of course you like Imperialism on the global scale). Let’s review:
1. Inept CIA and FBI information gathering led to tragedy on 9/11. He was reviewing the info (him like to play cowboy, him like to play spy!)
2. Inept knowledge of the world map - not knowing up from down led Cheney to Iraq, when all indicators were pointing to Afghanistan and Pakistan. (Cheney fears Afghanistan more than he fears a liberal at one of his meat-based dinner parties, so it is no real shock that he missed this target).
3. Paranoia led him to push for consolidation of virtually all government departments into Homeland Security, which sounds so much like Franco’s “todo para la patria” that chills are running down millions of spines. This of course led to the Katrina debacle, and now all the fingers are pointing at DHS – at least Brownie’s big fat finger is. He couldn’t wait to pass that dirty buck, could he! I guess he’s lucky that he’s not the one who was hunting with Cheney.
4. Cheney’s desire for oil and profits from that same substance have led him to direct our attention to Iran. So, when GWB II got up from the throne and announced that America was addicted to oil, he should have said, “America, like Dick Cheney, is addicted to oil.”
5. Cheney’s inability to see through his own myopic eyeballs led him to shoot and seriously wound his friend. Damn!
What more could we ask of our Vice President? We can only ask that he does his best to look after the public trust, and that’s what he has been doing, his best, which is blunderingly abysmal.

Bush gave another one of his fantastically hollow hearted speeches last Tuesday, a real snooze fest for anyone looking for a glimmer of hope.
When he defended his domestic spying habits, he was really telling us "you can quote the Constitution and the BIll of RIghts all day long, I'm the one in charge! We do what I say!"
Just so we all know the truth: When Bushg says "replace 75% of Mideast oil imports", what he means is that he's going to get it from Canada and Alaska. Look out Canada! You might get invaded soon!
When he says "freedom around the world" what he really means is "freedom to do as I say"; you can be sure that Hamas will not be in power long in Palestine. Look for US intervention there, and possibly up into Lebanon.
Whe he says "the only alternative to Americna leadership, he means "all out Armageddon if I don't get my way."
When he tried to equate himself with Eisenhower, he was just trying to point future historians away from his real self.
When he encouraged more science studies, you can bet he knows that in comparison to the rest of the world, our kids look like dumbasses.
Of course, he said nothing about Katrina, since that is a dirty word now, and nothing about Abramoff, an even dirtier word. We musn't sully our new improved Eisenhower with such unmentionables.
And of course, Ms. Cindy Sheehan was arrested during this speech, making it EVEN BETTER than it would have been otherwise.
DO doubt the neo-cons were feeling a mixture of euphoria and trepidation, while Cheney remained his usual flatulent self, that fat rat bastard.
