Former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani has thrown his Yankees cap into the ring for the GOP nomination in 2008.
There is no question that Giuliani did manage to manage this unmanageable city, and that he did emerge hero-like after 9/11. The question is: Will the Middle of America embrace a New Yorker, Catholic Italian who is Pro-Choice and Anti-Gun?
The answer is yes, if the money is right, and boy is the money right. Mondo Texas oilman & GOP fundraiser T. Boone Pickens has millions to hand over, while Roy Bailey, former finance chairman for the Texas Republican Party has the Taxes vote sewn up. But let us not forget Tom Hicks, the Dallas billionaire and owner of the Texas Rangers. Maybe the only thing standing between Giuliani and victory will be baseball. Will he give up his beloved Yankees for the Rangers?
It is interesting that virtually the entire team that executed the Bush victory is now on board with our former Mayor. Is there some notion out there that Rudy can turn this Blue state Red???
In any case, the fight in 2008 is bound to be more of a brawl. Let us see if the Democrats can pull it together this time, and not ruin this golden opportunity to reach out to the mainstream voters. We cannot afford any more of the extremism that led us into the horrifying history of Bush & Iraq.

Karl Rove, porcine strategist for Bush et Cheney, continues to work on his win-at-any-cost tactics. He cares only about winning, not about the results of the win, or the results of the policies he has underwritten. He is a modern-day carpet bagger, a leech, a court jester of the most vile type.
Rove cares not for the Country; Rove cares only for the Power he gets from the Party. In this sense, he would make a great Stalinist.
Thus far, Rove’s political strategies have achieved the following:
- “Delivering” Florida to the Red States via a suspicious vote-counting brouhaha
- Painting a heroic image of Bush when in reality he is anything but a hero.
- Linking Sept 11th to Iraq, when all the evidence has pointed to the diametric opposite; no link at all
- Pre-emptive war as Democracy building (laughable, but people bought it)
- Suspension of civil liberties in order to “protect” the citizens.
- Painting the Blue States as supporters of terrorism
- Painting Kerry as weak as water (and of course Kerry shot off his mouth and now Karl has a new stick to beat Kerry with)
- Painting Hillary Clinton as the Devil (he must have to the movies recently)
- Confusing Americans at every turn with phrases like “Axis of Evil”, “Victory” and “Stay the Course”
- Linking Islam to Fascism with the Rovain term “Islamo-Fascism (Bush’s brain could never have thought that one up)
Here are the long term effects of these Rovian strategies:
- Americans have no faith in the actual voting process, since votes seems to be guessed at rather than counted, and in the end the court decides.
- Bush’s face is likely to be emblazoned on Mount Rushmore. The best we can hope for is an earthquake that will cleave his face in two to reveal the buttocks that lay beneath the mask.
- Linkage is no longer of importance, since it is too difficult to untwist the pretzel logic that created the link in the first place. Therefore, Americans will no longer ask “what’s the link?” They will just invade.
- Pre-emptive is like birth control – only there are no eggs involved, so it okay if civilians die.
- There will be no more protests, because protestors will be considered “enemy combatants’
- The Blue States will have a hard time getting Federal monies until they change to Red
- Kerry, well, they will continue to pillory him, and when he dies, they will hang him from the Washington Monument as an example to all who would deft the Reds.
- Hillary will no doubt be indicted for something; there’s just no telling what is going on in Rove’s brain. But he will find a way. HE will not rest until she is behind bars.
- He will continue to hand out these cute phrases, like candy, and Americans will continue to eat them.
- He will continue to link Islam with Fascism, which in turn will enhance his Stalinist persona. He should remember Trotsky, though, and that ax in Mexico City.
Rove wants to make this a One Party system – he wants to put one party in such a position of power that it will have no challengers. That, my friends, is what Totalitarianism means. One Party. No challenges. Reduced civil liberties. Criminalized protestors. Vilifying pother citizens. Creating the “other” in order to focus hate on something else.
Red States? Sounds like the perfect color.
