Former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani has thrown his Yankees cap into the ring for the GOP nomination in 2008.
There is no question that Giuliani did manage to manage this unmanageable city, and that he did emerge hero-like after 9/11. The question is: Will the Middle of America embrace a New Yorker, Catholic Italian who is Pro-Choice and Anti-Gun?
The answer is yes, if the money is right, and boy is the money right. Mondo Texas oilman & GOP fundraiser T. Boone Pickens has millions to hand over, while Roy Bailey, former finance chairman for the Texas Republican Party has the Taxes vote sewn up. But let us not forget Tom Hicks, the Dallas billionaire and owner of the Texas Rangers. Maybe the only thing standing between Giuliani and victory will be baseball. Will he give up his beloved Yankees for the Rangers?
It is interesting that virtually the entire team that executed the Bush victory is now on board with our former Mayor. Is there some notion out there that Rudy can turn this Blue state Red???
In any case, the fight in 2008 is bound to be more of a brawl. Let us see if the Democrats can pull it together this time, and not ruin this golden opportunity to reach out to the mainstream voters. We cannot afford any more of the extremism that led us into the horrifying history of Bush & Iraq.
