Michael Crichton's NEXT

I just finished one of Crichton's newest novel, NEXT.  It's a good book, but if you plan on reading it, don't expect any intense action, as you would've felt while reading Jurassic Park or even State of Fear.

No, this book is different.  There IS action, but it's different.

In NEXT, you get into the universe of biotechnologies and their companies, people working for them, and new drugs being tested.  Also, you see the dark side of those companies and people working for them. As in, there's a rare cell line that came from a patient, and this is the only cell line that exists.  It gets destroyed, and the company sends off a bounty hunter to claim some more of those cells.  The only thing is, since the original source of those cells has dissapeared, the bounty hunter hunts for the source's daugther, and the grandson.

Why? because somewhere, sometime in the book, a california judge had ruled that the biotech company owned those cells.  And had the right to access them anytime. Anywhere.

through the pages, you'll also read some newspaper articles, regarding speaking apes, a theory about blondes being extinct in 200 years, and the existence of true Chimeiras.

Due to the nature of the book, you may have sometimes to re-read a passage here and there (terms and all), and since there are many characters involved, it might be a little bit harder to keep track of who's who and so on.

And since this book is quiet complex, regarding the story itself and all, I won't say anything more, because I'd probably spoil it out.

But in the end, I feel like this book is like some sort of TV serie (let's say ER or SVU) you would read about, which is something I enjoyed.

4.5/5
