However, if you are expecting typical Hotel service and cleanliness, you should consider looking elsewhere. Many of our users mention the "spectacular lobby" and "famous Carlyle Cafe" and how the Carlyle offers "old world charm and the feeling that you have been transported back to Gotham City in the 20s...glamourous, elegant and fun." The only reason to stay here "is if you are a student or backpacker and cannot afford better." Many clients found the hotel "unclean and rundown."
