Editorial Review
Occupying the 28th through 42nd floors of the Waldorf=Astoria, the Waldorf Towers are an elite retreat with an air of opulence and intrigue. At first glance, the Waldorf-Towers are the Waldorf=Astoria's answer to the popularity of boutique hotels. However, the towers actually opened in 1931 and have been serving royalty and discriminating travelers ever since. Guests have included every U.S. president since Herbert Hoover, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Cary Grant and Cole Porter. They come for the special privileges the Towers bestow, such as a separate and discreet entrance and lobby; private, key-access elevators; complimentary Continental breakfast and evening canapés in the 26th-floor Astoria Lounge; and complimentary access to the on-site Fitness Center. If you're feeling Presidential, the suites come with fully equipped kitchens, dining areas and even staff quarters. If your budget is not yet Presidential, you can stay in any one of the 180 rooms, each one fitted with a unique style such as French Provincial, Old English, and Empire. Most have high 12-foot ceilings, original crown moldings, chandeliers, velvets and silk fabrics, and impressive city views. Beds are dressed in triple-sheeted Frette linens and down comforters. Large marble bathrooms offer separate showers and tubs, brass or original nickel fixtures, Egyptian cotton towels, and Penhaligon's of London toiletries. Conveniences include multiple phones, fax/copier/printers, wet bars, minibars, and twice-daily housekeeping service. And of course: you are located on gorgeous Park Avenue, close to the many fine stores, restaurants and attractions that this dazzling part of New York has to offer.
