Astoria has historically been a home and haven to many of New York City's immigrant influxes of the twentieth century, from the Dutch and German to the later Irish, Greek, and Albanian populations that have long since given the neighborhood a distinctive, multiethnic flavor. Small wonder, then, that the area has long been attractive to the young and hip, looking for vibrant neighborhoods with reasonable rents and quick access to Manhattan. Close to La Guardia Airport, Astoria is a great destination for tourists.
