Daily Life Collection

Besides momentous events of the Revolutionary Era and New York City history, Fraunces Tavern's collection represents daily life of 18th-century Americans. Objects that were once common are now the most rare. Utilitarian items were often broken or used until they were worn out and then tossed away. Eric Orr

Eric Orr was an artist whose works center on natural phenomena. He was one of the pioneers of the California Light and Space movement in the late 1960s. This work was created for P.S.1’s 1997 building renovation. Eric Orr's work is comprised of three slits in the Courtyard's concrete wall.

Keith Sonnier: Tunnel of Tears

A minimalist artist, Keith Sonnier is known for his use of neon lights in architectural contexts. His Tunnel of Tears was installed for the reopening of P.S.1 in 1997. Lawrence Weiner: A bit of matter and a little bit more

Two highly-detailed, hand-carved miniature wooden models of Downtown and Midtown Manhattan on permanent display. Donated by Mike Chesko, a 49-year-old retiree and devoted amateur model maker. Richard Artschwager: Exit-Don’t fight City Hall

Richard Artschwager's site-specific installation was completed in 1976 as part of P.S.1’s inaugural exhibition Rooms. By painting the word “Exit” on each of the five bulbs illuminating the corridor, the artist brings new meaning to ubiquitous signage, and also brings to attention the importance of a non-neutral exhibition space.
