world-class orchestra
By domo-kun who lives in Floral Park

Under direction of conductor Loren Maazel, the philharmonic has prospered even more than under former conductor Kurt Masur. In these days of enormous outlays, covering expenses for a traditional philharmonic has become ever more complicated, and certainly Maestro Maazel knows how to lure patrons to the performances. Nevertheless--and I've said it before--Avery Fisher Hall is a dump, and it is nearly impossible to get younger people to enjoy classical music in this awful sound-handicapped venue. It is a tremendous problem that will only grow in the coming years.
