Editorial Review
Lefferts Historic House is a child friendly museum that interprets everyday life as it was experienced by 18th century Dutch, African and Native American children of the area. The Museum is in an original 18th century farmhouse built by a Dutch family in the farming village of Flatbush. It is filled with exhibits that combine interactive tools, toys and games with rooms furnished in the style of the early 19th century.

Visitors to the Historic House play with traditional tools, toys and games and have the unique chance to engage in seasonal farm activities. Families also participate in craft activities such as candle making, sewing, butter churning, and making fire with flint and steel. Special weekend programs follow the seasonal patterns of rural life: from springtime planting during Linsey-Woolsey Weekend to the lazy days of Summer Songs & Stories to the annual Harvest Fair and Winter Festival.

History comes alive at Lefferts Historic House as each season ushers in a new collection of temporary exhibits, crafts workshops, story telling and numerous activities for families and school groups. For dates and times of these activities and special events, see our Calendar of Events.
